Blogging is something that is very new to me. I found it interesting when reading classmates blogs because I think for most of us felt the same about certain issuses. This might because we are all mostly around the same age and probably have similar interests since we are in related majors. Many of my classmates knew a good bit about technology from this class however most agreed that they learned more. Also I think many of them were grateful for what we use cause everyone knows how important technology is becoming.



The next technology related skill that I would like to learn next would probably be related to powerpoint. Even though I feel like I know a great deal about powerpoint, I think that there is still alot that I dont know. I feel that this class got me used to the things i was unfamiliar with, but theres still so many things that you can do to make them more creative.

Some ways that I plan on acheiving my future educational goals would be to keep practicing the technology skills that I know now. In order to get better at something you have to practice it. This is especially true with technology because I feel like it is pointless to study certain things. Also one of my goals is to have my kids have good computer skills at a young age. This is something that my dad made sure me and my brother had. He made sure to introduce it to us when he first learned and i am grateful for that.

Blog # 9

This is a website that offers a variety of resources for teachers to use in there classrooms. This websites has a variety of things such as, worksheets, software programs, online books and other sites that teachers can use. It is helful because if you cant always think of something to do, then you could the website for ideas. Also, if you arent the most creative person, it offers helful tips.

Some of the other websites that my classmates used are very similar to this one. Some of them are more geared toward a certain subject. One of my classmates used a website that even gave ideas for buliten boards, and offered ideas for all grade levels. Sometimes people only offer help for the higher grades, but since I plan on teaching younger kids this stuff doesnt really pertain to me.

I think that the technology that I would like to learn about next would be Excel. We covered this in class, but it has never been something that I am familiar with. Even though we had practice on it, I would like to study it more and get better adjusted to it. This is because I think that this could be especially useful in a classroom. Many teachers use this for grading purposes and I think that by the time I become a teacher everyone will be using this for grading.

I think that one way I will reach my future technology related education goals would be to make sure that technology is greatly integrated into my future teaching plans. I think that it has become so important that not only should I use it to my full advantage, I should make sure that my students understand it and are able to use it for themselves.

Blog # 8

In chapter 8 we learned about all the bad things that come along with technology. These are things such as viruses and criminal activity. This chapter talked about computer security risks and and computer crimes. Viruses are apart of computer security risks. Many viruses are designed to destroy or corrupt data stored on the infected computer. There are three types of viruses : boot sector viruses, file viruses, and macro viruses. There are also two variations of computer viruses known as malicious software programs and worms. All these things are bad for your computer and can cause you to lose all the information on it. Another important part is securing the information on your computer by using a password.

Something that I have learned over these past couple weeks is how to back up your computer. I learned this by reading this chapter. I always knew that you should back up your computer, but actually reading about the different types of viruses and all the bad things that they can do to your computer really makes me want to take the extra step and back up all my stuff. I would hate to lose my pictures or my music on my computer. I also learned more about powerpoint. This is important because i think powerpoint is one of the most useful programs you can have as a teacher.

I really found it interesting to read this chapter. This is especially true because I think that my computer has a virus. It is really frustrating because all of a sudden i have all these pop ups and my computer is really slow. I take alot of percautions so this stuff wont happen but somehow it did. When i go home im going to have to take it to my uncle who works with computers and hopefully he can help me fix it. I would hate to lose all the things that are on my computer. Its also really frustrating when on my computer and i have to stop what im doing and restart my computer.

Blog # 7

In this chapter we learned about how to evaluate the different types of technology that are available to us today. It also gives us different ideas on how to integrate these types of technology's into our curriculum. The chapter describes how there is alot of technology at our disposale in today's world, yet as educators you have to know what is appropriate to use and what isnt. Something is appropriate to use if: " it is suitable for the educational situation, motivational,must promote learning at the correct levels of student ability and academic acheivement." Teachers rely on all types of sources to tell them what is considered appropriate. Some of these are catalogs,published evaluations and conferences. I think one of the most important sources is opiniions from your couleges. These people have experience and will probably be able to help you.

Something that I learned over the past week was how to make a web evaluation sheet. This is something that was also discussed in this chapter. This is important because it is important to understand where the information you are looking for and it is reliable. Alot of people can post stuff on the internet and that doesnt mean that they are using facts or know what they are talking about. As students you have to be able to look at a website and take out what is important and look past the garbage.

Next weekend I am going home and Im very excited. It is a three day weekend and im happy to spend it with my family. Im especially happy about it because i dont know if im going to be able to go home for thanksgiving or not. My parents planned on coming up here since my brother and i are both here and they wanted to do something different. But now my brother wants to go home for thanksgiving so all the plans might get changed around. Im also excited because my birthday is in less than 3 weeks and when i go home i get to go shopping with my mom for my birhtday presents!

Blog # 6

I think that Chapter 6 is one of the most important chapters we've read so far. This chapter talks about how technology and education work together. This is important to know because this is what teachers like to know, how to use technology in their careers. Many state departments provide their teachers with specific curriculums and the teachers use technology within that. Technology is important because it helps keeps students interested and has a potential to increase motivation and class attendence. Technology is good because it promotes active learning. This gets the class involved and you have a better chance that the class is understanding what is being taught.

I have learned a couple new things since the last class. Right now we are learning about powerpoint. This is something that I kind of always knew how to do, but never really knew how to do it in depth. One of the powerpoints that we are learning how to do is similar to a jeapordy game. I think that this fits into what we are learning about in this chapter because this could be used for active learning. Students will be more likely to get involved and pay attention if they feel like they are playing a game. This is especially true for younger students, which is what I plan on teaching.

Tommorow is Halloween and im very excited about it. Last year halloween was fun but i feel like this year it will be alot better. I dont know what we are doing yet but im sure we will figure something out. It is also one of my friends birthday's so im sure he'll want to do something. Alot of kids are going home this weekend because it is FAMU's homecoming. Im staying in town cause i'll be going home next weekend and have no desire to drive 7 hours two weekends in a row.

Blog #5

In Chapter 6, we learn the reasons why technology is so important to our careers. This chapter is all about how to incorporate technology into our curriculum. An important part of this chapter talks about technology integration. This is the combination of all technology parts, such as hardware and software, together with each subject-related area of curriculum to enhance learning. The chapter also talks about how there is a difference between a computer lab and using software in the classroom. It is more beneficial when teaching to have software in the classroom, but its also good for students to get a chance to work with computers.

Since last weeks class, i have learned more bout microsoft word. This is important because next to xp and the internet, i use microsoft word a lot. It is important to understand this stuff because you mainly uses microsoft programs when teaching. I also found it interesting how it talked about incorporating teaching and technology. This was important because for the past six chapters we have only been learning about how a computer works and its different parts, this stuff is boring to me. How you can actually use it is what i find interesting.

This past weekend I went to Jax. for the football game and it was a lot of fun. The weekend was crazy, especially since we won and the gators lost. I'm also happy that I got a chance to see my friends that go to UNF. To make things even crazier there was 8 girls in one hotel room. We deff. looked like a bunch of broke college kids crammed in there. I'm excited to see my parents this weekend. My brother just got a puppy that my parents don't know about so im excited to see their reaction to this surprise. Needless to say this will be an exciting weekend also.

Blog # 4

In chapter 5 we learned about the different types of digital media that is out there. Digital Media is described as "those technologies that allow users to create new forms of interaction, expression, communication, and entertainment in digital format. The ability of users to interact with a digital media application is perhaps the most unique and important feature of digital media. Text and graphics are an important part of the digital media experience.Animation, audio and video are also important types of digital media.

This week we got a chance to look around at the different websites for different things that we might be able to use as teachers. I found this interesting because i basically realized that there is a website out there that can do every part of your job for you. Not saying that I would do this but if you ever run out of ideas, or are having difficulties than you have somewhere online to go. There are even blogs specifically meant for teachers. I thought this fit into the class well because blogging is a big part of this class.

Something that I would like to share with my classmates is im excited for parents weekend. Whenever my parents come up i get the chance to go shopping with my mom and buy alot of stuff a poor college kid couldnt buy on there own. Im also excited because im going to destin the weekend after that for my friends. My roomate has a beach house there and every time we go its alot of fun. The only thing I dont like about all this stuff going on is its making me do all my homework during the week and that im not a fan of.

Blog # 3

This week we read Chapter 4 of the book. We learend about input and output devices. There are four types of input devices: commands, user responses,date and programs. The keyboard is an example of an input device. If you think about it it makes sense logically because you are "inputing" information into the computer. An output devices is something that sends info out. This is something such as speakers. Again, this all makes sense logically. I find it interesting to read all of these chapters in the books because it explains how everything works. This will be helfpful if a problem ever comes up, you should know how the computer works.

Some things that I would like to share with my classmates would be that i am very excited to go to the Alabama game this weekend in Jax. Im not excited though that I have a test that monday that I proably wont have time to study for. Noone in the class is to happy with the teacher because of that. Im glad that this class doesnt make you do alot of work outside the classroom, or if it does it is spread out over a week so you have more time.

Some skills that I have aquired since the last class was we learned how to use the inspirationn program. This could be beneficial because it can help you teach different types of learners. I also liked this because since im planning on teaching younger kids, the pictures and charts can help them learn things faster. I also learned more about Microsoft Word. I never knew how to do half of the things that you can do on Word and Im glad that I finally leanred to do so. I think it would be helpful if i got a more up to date Word on my computer at home.

In chapter three we learned about the different types of application software and how it works. We also learned about the different ways this software can help us in our education careers. The book stated that application software helps you by " helping manage student records, teach students with different academic needs, and work more productively. Microsoft is the maker of alot of these products. Some of these products are : Word ,Powerpoint, and Excel. Microsoft windows helps control all of these programs. Some of the things that I have learned since last weeks class was how to make a newsletter and how to make quizzes. I found it interesting that there was a proper way to do all of the controls considering i've been doing it the improper way for all these years. Even though im familiar with most of the microsoft products, its always good to read more about them and im glad i did so in chapter 3. I learned more that could help me accomplish tasks faster. Things that I would want to share with my classmates is im not really that into the whole blogging thing. Maybe it will change by the end of the class but i doubt it. I think its a good idea at times but it kind of freaks me out the people are reading an online diary. I do however i think that it is a good idea for educational and communication purposes, but i would never do a personal blog.

The ARCS motivational model was developed to show the differences that could account for the amount of effort a student puts forth in his or her work. A stands for attention, R for relevance, C for challenge and confidence and S for satisfaction and success. The idea behind this is that if the child is engaged and feel that they could use this later on in there life, they will be more willing to pay attention. Also if they feel that they have a challenge, when they succeed they will feel proud and if you feel that way you will stay motivated. Technology is important in the education setting because it can be used in all areas of the field. It is just as important to the teacher as it is to the principal and his secretary.

Some skills that I have acquired since my last post would be that I am more familiar with the inter workings of the computer. I think that this would be beneficial in my career because if you know how to work something, it allows you to be able to teach the students even better. I also learned all the different areas that technology is important in. These are things that I wasn't even aware of. It can be used in grading, communication and teaching. Even though these things seem obvious I was made even more aware of it by reading it.

Doing these readings has showed me how much technology is important in the education field. However i feel that since i plan on teaching Kindergarten or First grade it will not be as big of a part of my job as it would be a high school. None the less I think that it is important to acquire these skills no matter what. Like the book said, our generation and the kids behind us are a technology generation and times are changing. It is a good thing to keep up with the times!

Technology has never been something that I have been very good at. I always try to avoid situations that involves me doing anything to serious with it. Fourtunatly i know enough to get by and am willing to learn more about it. Living in a new house with just me and my friends has forced me to learn to set up all different types of technology on my own. This includes our tvs and computers.
By taking this class I hope to learn a couple things. In todays society technology is something that is becoming more and more important. Since i plan on becoming a teacher, i know that technology is going to become more of my everyday life. I hope that this class can help me familarize myself more and more with the different aspects of the computer that i will use in my everyday life. This includes things such as Microsoft word and powerpoint. By becoming good at theses things i can become an even better teacher.
Some basic facts would about me would be that im a sophmore from Ft.Lauderdale Florida. This is my second year at FSU but is my first year living off campus. This is something that i love and is very exciting for me. Most of my time, energy and money these past couple weeks has been focused on my new house. I have a younger brother who also goes to FSU.
